48V is the platform for power-dense, full-time off-grid builds – air conditioning, induction cooking, 3kVA+ inverters and big battery banks. It's also less forgiving to spec by hand, because every component has to be matched across two voltages. This free builder does that matching for you.
The Vunked 48V campervan electrics builder walks you through a complete high-power system – battery bank, solar array, charging and inverter – and shows you exactly what you need, and why, with a live price as you go.
At the same power, a 48V system draws a quarter of the current of a 12V one. Lower current means thinner, cheaper cable, smaller voltage drop over long runs, and far more headroom for high-wattage 230V appliances. If your build includes air conditioning, an induction hob, or an inverter above 3kVA, 48V is usually the right foundation. For everything that still runs on 12V – lights, fridge, water pump, USB sockets – the system steps down through a dedicated 48-12V converter, so your accessories work exactly as they would in a 12V van.
The result is a personalised 48V specification you can actually use – whether you're shopping for components, briefing an auto-electrician, or wiring it yourself.
You don't need an electrical background to use it. The 48V builder is designed to be approachable for first-time builders, while detailed enough for experienced converters planning serious off-grid power to find it genuinely useful.
Stop guessing. Start building with confidence.
Short reads that cover everything you'll be asked in the builder — open these in another tab.
Work out how much battery, solar, and charging you need before you buy a single component.
